The TC-D5M Crystal Sync Recorder has long been a favorite among filmmakers who desired an alternative to the bulkier conventional sync sound recorders. The D5M has a long and varied history having been introduced by Sony back in 1980. It offers many of the same features available on the smaller D6 such as internal 60hz crystal sync generator, Dolby noise reduction, disc-drive capstan, manual gain control, headphone amp. It accepts all grades of cassette tape including metal. In addition, the TC-D5M is equipped with a switchable peak limiter, switchable 20dB mic attentuator, true VU meters and offers a built-in playback speaker with adjustable level.
In our modification for the internal crystal sync generator we provide
for automatic signal switching on the LEFT sync track when there is no external
input present at the 1/4" phone jack. As part of the modification the gain
controls are separated allowing for precise, independent adjustment of each
channel during the recording process. A headphone patch is supplied to prevent
listening to the sync signal during extended monitoring. The
recorder can still be used for standard stereo non-sync recording and
playback.
As part of our total system approach to the TC-D5M Crystal Sync Recorder we are manufacturing a completely new Micro Resolver to allow for automatic transfers of your location cassettes directly to videocassette or fullcoat mag stock. By owning your own Resolver the complete acceptability of your sync sound material by any transfer house in the country is assured.
The complete package includes carrying case with neck strap, AC adaptor, 10' XLR microphone cable and headphone patch. The TC-D5M is also available with a 50hz. crystal generator.
The recorder is no longer available from Sony
